Terms of Business

Northallerton Insurance Services Ltd (NIS) is a company incorporated in England & Wales (registered number 053407650) with its registered office at 1400 High Street Northallerton DL7 8PE. NIS is authorised and regulated by the financial Conduct Authority and our fCA register number is 432898

Our Service

We are an independent insurance intermediary and we will act on your behalf in arranging your noninvestment insurance contracts. Our services includes advising and making recommendations on your insurance needs, arranging your insurance cover with Insurance Companies to meet with your requirements once they have been fully assessed or helping you with any ongoing changes that you need to make to your insurance during the Policy period. We will also advise you when you need to renew your Policy in time to allow you to consider and arrange any continuing cover.

Duty of Disclosure

It is important that you understand if is your responsibility to to provide complete and accurate information to your insurer when you take out your insurance policy, through out the term of the policy and when you renew your policy. Any information which might influence your insurer to accept, amend or decline your insurance proposal or renewal must be disclosed. failure to disclose material facts to the insurer or any inaccuracies may invalidate your insurance cover in part or in whole. If you are unsure about disclosing any matter please contact us for guidance.

Our Remuneration

The method of remuneration for the service we provide is either in the form of a percentage of the insurance premium or an agreed fee or a combination of both. We reserve the right to make charges in addition to any insurance premiums for the arranging, amending and renewing of any policy of insurance. Any such charges will always be advised to you before you purchase the insurance.

Information on Costs

All general insurance policies can be subject to a policy fee of upto a maximum of £75.00 and all Mid Term adjustments are subject to a maximum policy amendemnt charge of £25.00 this is in addition to any charges made by the Insurer.. Any duplicate documents requested can incur a charge of £10.00 which is payable for duplicates that are requested from the Insurance Company. These charges are non refundable if the policy is cancelled. All cancelled policy premium refunds will have an cancellation charge of 10%, with a minimum of £25.00 deducted. If we cancel a policy due to non-payment all premiums paid up until cancellation will be forfeited, and the cancellation charge implemented. Any such costs will always be advised to you before you purchase the insurance or before they are incurred.

Payment Terms

We normally accept payment by cheque, cash debit/credit card or BACS transfer.. We require full payment of premium within 7 days of cover being effected. You may be able to spread your payments through Insurers Instalment Schemes or one of the credit schemes, which we have arranged with Close finance and Premium Credit We will give you full information about your payment options when we discuss your insurance detail.

How we handle your money

We hold client money subject to a non-statutory trust. This means that we are entitled to and may use client money held on behalf of one client to pay another client's premium before the premium is recieved from that other client and to pay premium refunds to another client before we recieve payment from the insurer.


As part of our service we can assist you with any claim you need to make. In the event of a claim notify us immediately and we will advise you what to do next. We can also pass your details onto the insurance company and issue a claim form where required. We will also liase with the insurance company on your behalf while the claim is ongoing.. If you are ever in any doubt as to what action to take in the event of a claim, please contact us immediately.


It is our intention to provide you with a high level of customer service at all times. If you wish to make a complaint about our service we have a formal complaints procedure. We will supply you with a copy of our complaints procedure upon receipt of a complaint or at any time upon request. If you cannot settle your complaint with us, you may be entitled to refer it to the financial Ombudsman Service.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)

NIS Ltd are covered by the FSCS. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Insurance advising and arranging is covered for the first £2000 and 90% of the remainder of the claim, without any upper limit. Confidentiality & Data Protection

All personal information about you will be treated as private and confidential. We will only use and disclose the information we have about you in the normal course of arranging and administering your insurance. We may pass information about you to credit reference agencies for the purposes of arranging payments by instalments and may also pass to them details of your payment record with us. We will not disclose any information to any other parties without consent. We may, however, use the information we hold about you to provide information to you about other products and services which we feel may be appropriate to you. Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to see personal information about you that we hold in our records. If you have any queries in this regard please write to us.
